Terms of Service
Last updated: April 13, 2026
Welcome to Unbinge. These Terms of Service ("Terms") are the agreement between you and Seth Mitchell Crowley, a sole proprietor based in Austin, Texas ("we," "us," or "Unbinge"), governing your use of the Unbinge mobile app and the website at unbingeapp.com.
We've written these Terms in plain language because you should understand what you're agreeing to. That said, this is still a legal document — by using Unbinge, you agree to everything in it. If you don't agree, don't use the app.
If you have questions, email support@unbingeapp.com.
IMPORTANT: Medical disclaimer (please read this first)
Unbinge is not a substitute for professional medical or mental health care.
Unbinge is a self-help tool designed to support people navigating binge eating, body image concerns, and related struggles. It is not a medical device. It is not a diagnostic tool. It is not therapy. The content in the app — including the Learning Center lessons, the Koa AI companion, the recovery tracking tools, and the community — is for informational and supportive purposes only.
Koa is not a therapist. Koa is an AI companion powered by a large language model. It has been given clinical grounding in the same research base as our curriculum, but it cannot diagnose you, it cannot prescribe anything, it cannot provide medical advice, and it cannot respond to emergencies. Do not use Koa for crisis support.
If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact a licensed professional, go to your nearest emergency room, or use one of these resources:
- 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (US): Call or text 988
- Crisis Text Line (US): Text HOME to 741741
- National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA): Call 1-800-931-2237
- International: Find a local crisis line at findahelpline.com
If you have an eating disorder or suspect you might, we strongly encourage you to work with a licensed mental health professional, a registered dietitian trained in eating disorders, and/or a physician — in addition to using Unbinge, not instead of. Serious eating disorders require clinical treatment. Apps help, but they are not enough on their own.
You are responsible for your own health and wellbeing while using Unbinge. By agreeing to these Terms, you confirm that you understand this.
1. Who can use Unbinge
You can use Unbinge if you are at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, you need permission from a parent or guardian. By using the app, you confirm you meet these requirements.
If we learn that someone under 13 is using the app, we will close their account and delete their data.
2. Your account
You can use Unbinge as a guest without creating an account. Most features work in guest mode.
If you create an account:
- You are responsible for keeping your password secure.
- You must provide accurate information.
- You are responsible for everything that happens under your account.
- If you suspect unauthorized access, email us immediately.
You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Settings → Account → Delete Account. Deletion is permanent.
3. Subscriptions and payments
3.1 What we offer
Unbinge offers two paid options:
- Annual subscription — $29.99 per year, with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers. After the trial, you are charged the annual fee and then once per year until you cancel.
- Lifetime access — $49.99 as a one-time purchase. This gives you permanent access to all current and future premium features for as long as Unbinge exists.
Prices may change. If they do, existing subscribers keep their current rate until their next renewal, and we notify you before the change takes effect.
3.2 How the free trial works
New subscribers to the annual plan get a 7-day free trial. During the trial, you get full access to everything. On day 7, if you haven't cancelled, you are automatically charged for the first year.
You can cancel at any time during the trial and you will not be charged. Cancellation must happen at least 24 hours before the end of the trial — that's an Apple requirement, not ours, but it's how the App Store works.
To cancel the trial: open the App Store on your iPhone, tap your profile photo, tap Subscriptions, find Unbinge, and tap Cancel.
3.3 Auto-renewal
Your annual subscription automatically renews at the end of each billing period unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before renewal. The renewal charge is billed to the Apple ID you used for the original purchase.
You can turn off auto-renewal at any time through your Apple ID account settings.
3.4 Refunds
All refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. We cannot issue refunds directly. If you want a refund, request it at reportaproblem.apple.com using the Apple ID that made the purchase. Apple decides whether to grant refunds according to their own policies.
We encourage you to use the free trial to decide whether Unbinge is right for you before committing to the annual subscription.
3.5 Lifetime access
Lifetime access means for the lifetime of the app — as long as Unbinge is operating. If we shut down the app (we don't plan to, but we have to be honest), lifetime access ends with it. We will give reasonable notice before shutting down and will do our best to help you export your data.
Lifetime access does not transfer between Apple IDs.
3.6 Restore purchases
If you reinstall the app, switch devices, or sign into a new Apple ID on the same device, tap "Restore Purchases" on the paywall screen to reactivate your subscription or lifetime access.
4. Referral program
Unbinge may offer a referral program that lets creators, clinicians, or community members share referral codes with their audiences. When someone uses a referral code, they may receive a discount or extended free trial, and the referrer may receive a reward (credit, commission, or other benefit as we specify at the time).
The terms of the referral program — including who can participate, what rewards are offered, and how payouts work — will be posted separately when the program launches. Those program-specific terms will become part of these Terms once published.
Until the program officially launches, no referral relationships exist and no referral rewards are owed. We reserve the right to modify or discontinue the program at any time, and to reject or claw back rewards obtained through fraudulent means (fake accounts, self-referrals, abuse of the system, etc.).
5. How you can and can't use Unbinge
You can use Unbinge for personal, non-commercial purposes related to your own recovery journey. You are welcome to use it every day, to share your experience with the community, and to build a life you actually want.
You may not:
- Use the app to harm yourself or others
- Share content designed to trigger, shame, or discourage other users
- Post pro-eating-disorder content (pro-ana, pro-mia, thinspiration, weight-loss tips framed as recovery, restriction strategies, purging methods, etc.)
- Harass, threaten, or bully other users
- Impersonate other people, clinicians, or Unbinge itself
- Share other people's private information
- Spam the community with ads, promotions, or off-topic content
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or otherwise reconstruct the app's code
- Attempt to bypass the paywall, fake premium status, or use the app in ways it wasn't designed for
- Scrape, copy, or redistribute the Learning Center curriculum or other content
- Use automated tools, bots, or scripts against the app
- Use Unbinge to build a competing product
- Violate any applicable law while using the app
If you do any of these things, we may suspend or terminate your account without notice or refund. We will apply these rules with human judgment, not robotic enforcement. The goal is to protect the community, not to be nitpicky.
6. Community guidelines
The Unbinge community is a space for people in recovery to support each other. The rules are simple:
- Be kind. Everyone here is struggling with something. Treat people the way you want to be treated on your worst day.
- Be honest. Share your real experience, not a filtered version. Setbacks are part of recovery.
- Keep it recovery-focused. This isn't a general social network. Posts should relate to recovery, wellbeing, or connection.
- No numbers. Do not share weights, calorie counts, measurements, clothing sizes, or BMI. These trigger other users and aren't part of recovery.
- No food photos. The community is not the place for plated meals or food porn.
- No advice-giving beyond your experience. Share what's worked for you. Don't tell other people what to do with their recovery.
- No promotion. No selling products, services, programs, or other apps.
We reserve the right to remove posts and suspend accounts that violate these guidelines. Reports are reviewed by humans.
7. Your content
When you post in the community, write in your journal, or otherwise create content in the app, you own that content. We don't claim any rights to it.
By posting publicly in the community, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to display, store, back up, and distribute your content within the app for the purpose of running the community feature. This license ends when you delete the content or your account.
Your journal entries, urge logs, mood logs, and other private data are yours alone. We store them so you can access them, but we do not use them for any purpose beyond running the app for you.
We do not use your content to train AI models.
8. Our content
The Unbinge app, website, logos, name, Learning Center curriculum, Koa system prompt, visual design, audio, and code are all owned by us (or licensed from others). You cannot copy, redistribute, resell, or create derivative works from any of it without our written permission.
The name "Unbinge" is our trademark.
Some content in the app is licensed under open-source licenses (for example, the EB Garamond font under the Open Font License). Where that's the case, we comply with the license terms and credit the creators where required.
9. Third-party services
Unbinge relies on several third-party services to operate:
- Apple handles payments, app distribution, and device APIs.
- Supabase hosts our database and authentication.
- Google (Gemini API) powers the Koa AI companion.
- RevenueCat manages subscriptions and entitlements.
- Vercel hosts the website.
When you use features that rely on these services, you are also agreeing to their respective terms. We are not responsible for things that go wrong in their systems, though we will do our best to help.
10. Changes to the app
We are continuously improving Unbinge. This means features may be added, changed, or removed at any time. We try to announce significant changes in advance, but we can't promise any specific feature will remain in the app forever.
If a feature you paid for is removed, we will offer a reasonable equivalent or, at our discretion, a refund.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or by email and give you a chance to review the new Terms before they take effect. Continuing to use the app after changes take effect means you accept the new Terms.
For minor changes (fixing typos, clarifying language), we will just update the "Last updated" date at the top.
12. Termination
You can stop using Unbinge at any time. You can delete your account at any time. No notice required.
We can suspend or terminate your access to the app if you violate these Terms, if we suspect fraud or abuse, or if we are legally required to. We will try to give notice when we can, but we don't always have to.
On termination, these sections survive: Medical Disclaimer, Ownership, Disclaimers, Limitation of Liability, Dispute Resolution, and anything else that by its nature should survive.
13. Disclaimers
Unbinge is provided "as is" and "as available." We make no warranties — express or implied — about the app's fitness for any particular purpose, its accuracy, its reliability, or its suitability for your specific situation.
We do not guarantee any specific recovery outcome. Recovery is personal, non-linear, and depends on many factors outside the app's control. We believe Unbinge can help. We cannot promise it will.
We do not guarantee the app will always be available. Servers go down. Bugs happen. Third-party services fail. We will do our best to keep the app running, but we cannot promise zero downtime.
We do not guarantee the Koa AI will always respond correctly. AI systems make mistakes. If Koa ever says something harmful, confusing, or wrong, please ignore it, report it to us, and talk to a real human.
14. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent allowed by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of your use of Unbinge — including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, emotional distress, or harm to your recovery.
Our total liability for any direct damages is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) fifty US dollars ($50).
Some jurisdictions do not allow limitations on liability for certain types of damages (like death, personal injury, or gross negligence), and these limitations do not apply where prohibited by law.
15. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold us harmless from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the app, your content, or your violation of these Terms.
16. Governing law and dispute resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.
We prefer to work things out directly. If you have a dispute with us, please email support@unbingeapp.com first. We will do our best to resolve it promptly and fairly.
If we can't resolve it informally, disputes will be resolved by binding arbitration in Austin, Texas, under the Consumer Arbitration Rules of the American Arbitration Association. Each party pays their own arbitration costs unless the arbitrator rules otherwise.
You agree to waive the right to participate in class actions against us. Disputes must be brought individually. This is standard for subscription apps.
Nothing in this section prevents either party from seeking injunctive relief in court for intellectual property claims or for enforcing the arbitration agreement itself.
17. Severability
If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest of the Terms remain in effect.
18. Entire agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, make up the entire agreement between you and Unbinge. They replace any prior agreements or communications.
19. Apple-specific terms (iOS users)
If you are using the iOS version of Unbinge, these additional terms apply:
- These Terms are between you and Unbinge, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide support for the app.
- If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligations.
- Unbinge (not Apple) is responsible for any product liability claims, claims that the app fails to conform to legal or regulatory requirements, and claims arising under consumer protection or similar legislation.
- Unbinge (not Apple) is responsible for addressing any third-party claim that the app infringes that third party's intellectual property rights.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms. Upon your acceptance of these Terms, Apple has the right (and is deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these Terms against you.
